Strike by SNCF subscribers against rising train ticket prices

VSn Wednesday, February 7th, the different subscriber associations SNCF are mobilizing against two recent decisions by the railway company, reports The Parisian. For the 20,000 subscribers who take the train to work every morning, SNCF’s decision to increase subscriptions for the “Max Actif” service, which allows two or three round trips per week on the same TGV line, 10% does not pass. Since February 1st, the SNCF has also decided to tighten the conditions for exchanging tickets.

“SNCF’s policy is unacceptable. This represents an increase of almost 20% in the space of three years. It is a lack of respect for us, who have been repeat and loyal customers for years”, said David Charretier, president of the TGV Tours-Paris users association.

“More radical” actions

In light of the controversy, SNCF guarantees that the price of tickets, with subscription, will remain between 16 and 18 euros on average, while “a classic second class ticket will cost 40-45 euros”, explains SNCF Voyageurs. “We are, therefore, very confident that it will continue to respond very broadly to the needs of this public and demonstrate that it is very competitive. »

But the various SNCF subscriber associations are planning “more radical” actions soon “if nothing changes after that”. » To protest these measures, subscribers have launched an online petition and will refuse to present their transport ticket to the controller, starting this Wednesday, February 7th.
