The Historical Library invites you to delve into the first guides to Paris thanks to the work of two experts: Marianne Cojannot-Leblanc and Emmanuel Château-Dutier

Go back in time thanks to four great texts about ancient Paris and its monuments, published between the end of the 17th centuryIt is century and first half of the 18th centuryIt is century:

– Henri Sauval, History and research of antiquities in the city of Paris, 3 volumes, Paris, 1724;

– Germain Brice, New description of what is most notable in the city of Paris, 2 volumes, Paris, 1684;

– Lemaire, Paris old and new, 3 volumes, Paris, 1685;

– Piganiol de La Force, Description of Paris, Versailles, Marly, Meudon, 8 volumes, Paris, 1742.

Marianne Cojannot-Leblanc and Emmanuel Château-Dutier present their work in these first tourist guides. Thanks to their important historical and digital work, these sources can now be used in all their richness – with easy searching and advanced indexing of the places and monuments described.
