Since its inauguration at the end of August 2018, the Buffalo has become an unmissable event in Saint-Martin-de-Fontenaya few kilometers south of Caen (Calvados). Both for its gastronomy and for its conviviality. As a result of the complementarity of the two owners, the chef Attoy Moindjie AND Pilou Mokeddel.

The two men met when the first was cooking at the second’s son’s restaurant, in Caen. “We were happy beyond our expectations”, smiles the latter, who promised to help Attoy when he wanted to start his business.

Jumpsuits and suits match

At lunchtime, the restaurant’s rooms with their authentic decor are always full. When the weather is good, the garden, with its wooden hut and your terrace, is taken by storm. “Here everyone is received and served in the same way, whether in overalls or suits”, guarantees Pilou Mokeddel, former commercial director of SM Caen with a very extensive address book. Whether he is a singer, like Murray Head, or a Prime Minister, like ANDLisabeth Bornetwo of the illustrious visitors who passed through here Saint-Martin-de-Fontenay these last few years.

Three employees become bosses

It is this spirit that Pilou and Attoy absolutely wanted to preserve when selling the Buffalo. They didn’t have to look far to find the ideal buyers. Christophe Lesouef (32 years old), waiter, Fabien Hamel (38 years old), who works indoors, and Xavier Goberon (50 years old), second in the kitchen, are the new chefs.

It’s a continuous transfer, we didn’t want to leave this place like this.

Christophe Lesouef, one of the new bosses of Buffarot

With experience in England, Switzerland and even Australia, Christophe and Fabien have this “openness to others” necessary to keep a restaurant alive. “We’re not just there to serve dishes, we talk to people! »

Reopening on January 3, 2024

Xavier, the new chef, also intends to perpetuate the “close to people” cuisine established by Attoy, while playing his own score on the piano as he goes along.

Le Buffarot closes for the Christmas holidays, starting December 22nd, and will reopen its doors on January 3rd, with Christophe, Fabien and Xavier at the helm.
